Ultra Music Festival 2011 Live Sets
Alas, I was unable to make it out to Miami for this years Ultra Music Festival. Regret. If all the facebook statuses and mobile uploads weren’t enough to make me pull my hair out, I’m gonna have to here about it from my buddies Naweed and Metalectric. Let me get this out of the way real quick. To everyone that went, I’d like to flip you all the bird and say I HATE/ENVY YOU. Ok, now on to the music. Pretty much every DJ you can name off the top of your head was in Miami last week throwing down nasty amounts of bass and new unheard tracks, all with a beachfront view. Rave + South Beach bikinis… gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. Anywho, all the sets were recorded (thank the rave gods) for our listening pleasure. You can find them all right HERE. But to start you all off, here are some I thought you might be interested in. See you next year Miami.
The following are in no particular order, except for the first

I still have yet to be impressed with any Mau5 set I’ve ever listened to, whether it be live or through headphones. Kaskade thoroughly underwhelmed me at Coachella 2010 and I’ve yet to forgive him. This ULTRA set is shwatever to me also. Both big brand names that IMO don’t do all that well live.
the Moby set is absolutely slaying me right now though. The man is GENIUS.
gonna get around to the last half sometime this weekend.
dude moby straight up was one of the greatest sets of the whole weekend… along with loco dice, he fucking killed it too
I like your taste mike. Because you actually have taste.
Agreed! I didnt get to see Moby live but I did get to see Loco Dice and he ABSOLUTELY killed it!! such a great set. Carl Cox tent always kills it. Anyone know where I can get the set to Loco Dice??
agree with you on kaskade and deadmau5.. dedmau5 needs to broaden the spectrum a little bit. im sick of hearing the saaame songs over and over at every show. i know its against his whole”im a producer not a d.j.” persona, but eventually its gonna hurt him in the long run. I was at Ultra and a lot of people were pissed about his set. Moby, Avicii, Afrojack, and Tiesto were absolutely amazing. Moby came out of nowhere with that one.
Should definitely be some interesting stuff happening with deadmau5 very soon. Go on youtube and type in professional griefers and watch his live video.
Kaskade’s set is amazing.
Laidback Luke’s is real whatever.
Avicii is groovy as hell.
mau5 was rubbish live. Kaskade was one of the best sets I saw at ultra
My guess is that most the people that didnt like the deadmau5 set didn’t listen to the whole thing. Here are the last four tracks of his set
Deadmau5 – Maths
Deadmau5 – Sometimes Things Get, Whatever
Deadmau5 & Kaskade – I Remember
Deadmau5 – HR 8938 Cephei
yeah… the same old songs he plays at every show.. I was at Ultra and the beggining was awesome he played all of his new stuff, the end was what sucked. In 2010 he put way more effort into his set. this year it was like he just went out there like whatever.
As someone that was on his 3rd Ultra, and have seen Deadmau5 at least 8 times already, I think his set absolutely sucked. It was almost identical to his set last year. Barely anything new. Look, if you play the Reward is Cheese on huge speakers, I will dance to it, always. But I don’t go to an Ultra mainstage closing set to hear the same music that has been out for ages, and which he played last year and at all his other sets. I go for something special. He had nothing special. As a long time Deadmau5 fan, hell I was one of the first people who made a helmet way back in 2008, I was thoroughly disappointed. He didn’t bring his A-Game, he just brought the regular stuff, which is good, but perhaps I’m just not impressed by the same stuff anymore. I’m sure people who saw him for the first time thought must have loved it.

preach dooder
i agree, as a 2nd time ultra member, he wasnt that impressive. Tiesto afrojack armin and avicii’s grooves killed it in my opnion
100% AGREE!!! Tiesto brought it, thats what a main event is supposed to do.
Anyway of getting sets from the Live Stage. Maybe Trentmoller’s, Fake Blood, and Royksopp’s?
unfortunately arent able to find any from the Live Stage at this point. Super sad about it. But if we catch wind we’ll update this post.
fake blood was kind of a disappointment honestly. they need to get the mstrkrft and boys noize set. those two sets along with moby were def. the rowdiest
Why I like deamau5 and his ultra set
The first time i saw Deadmau5 i almost shit myself. Deadmau5 at EDC was whatevers. He wasnt that great. But this set i really like because he played a lot of 4×4=12. Slowly, I have learned to appreciate his style of play better and better.
First of all, he only plays his own music. That is UNHEARD of in the DJ game these days. Can you imagine Afrojack or Luke or Wolfgang playing JUST there music. Won’t happen. Why? cus none of them have any albums. Deadmau5 has numerous. When you go to see Deadmau5, you are literally going to see deadmu5 the Artist. Not deamau5 the dj that is going to play other peoples music. Yes he plays his older songs, so what. I can bare to here ghost n stuff one more time. At least he’s not playing Show Me Love or One or The Island.
Secondly, his style of play is completely different than what anyone is doing. Everyone likes to do the basic start soft and get louder and build with white noise as the synths or whatever get louder, then the beat drops. Deamau5 does it completely in reverse. The beats hits and then, slowly and methodically, comes to a stop… then the beat hits again. the distinction between the slow down and the drop imo, creates such a better effect.
Thirdly, his level of production is unmatched. period. Coupled with his mixing skills, his transitions are seamless. Deadmau5 doesn’t do the “lets loop the vocals and turn the bass off and then 4,2,1,1/2 to the buzz.” He straight mixes his songs perfectly.
Fourthly, the deamau5 “vibe” if you will, is constant throughout the set. When other djs play whatever tracks are hot, there sets can be all over the place. The feel of the set differs too much imo, because the tracks have all different vibes. Not to say Deamua5 sets are monotonous, but they are constant. His sets have ups and downs, fast and slow as well as other variations, but it stays within the deadmau5 vibe, which to me is dark and heavy, yet playful at the same time.
Five, not to many people have the balls to play deadmau5 tracks. and for good reason.
my 2 cents
wow bro u got alot to learn, just an idiot. laidback luke and afrojack all have their own music
You’ve got to be KIDDING me. Can you read? Apparently not. He said that nobody wants those artists to play a set of JUST their music.
Hater’s gonna hate, the mau5 is going to keep doing what he wants so fuck them.
deadmau5 isnt a dj
And deadmau5 music is considered progressive which is exactly what u described above. if you like that kind of music then search for more progressive its a subgenre of electronic music. read a fckin book u idiot
progressive is an adjective that can be used to describe anything in which some kind of progress is achieved…as a “genre” it’s vague at best
any chance we can get feed me’s set? saw his opening video and it was fucking epic, would love to listen to the whole set.
Wheres the live tiesto sset from the first day???
Roger Sanchez set was sick…. don’t leave that shit out
Can We Get Wolfgangs Set?
unfortunately these are the sets we’ve been able to compile, others probably weren’t recorded. We’re sad too
CHEMICAL BROTHERS?!?!?!?1
No chemical brothers set was recorded, sadly. we scoured the interwebz.
unfortunate…
Live stage recordings!!! so much incredible music on that stage.
I was there for Chemical Brothers…some kind of show. Probably my favorite overall performance
yall dont know SHIT!! Skrillex Murdered it whenever he touched the stage…get with the program kiddies!! shits DOPE!!
So there was no recording for the tiesto set on friday!? or david guetta on saturday. What about steve aoki or afrojacks other sets?
arumem o LINK MOGUAY PQ TA OFF DANDO ERROR PLEASEEE
PLEASE MOGUAY OFF LINE SET
In my Humble opinion, as long as said DJ or Producer is having a good time doing his thing, then the show was a success. That’s the point really isn’t it? The reason they do what they do? As long as they aren’t just in it for the money, they should be in the business because the love what they do. So if it doesn’t sound so great to you or this time wasn’t as good as last time, then oh well don’t listen to it. There were plenty of people that had fun, enjoyed the music and partied hard. And hopefully the musicians where among those people.
didn’t anybody see the fucking chemical brothers? easily the best set PLAYED that weekend. and i say played because THEY PLAY IT ALL FUCKING LIVE! and ill say it again, it was hand down the best set of the weekend. jesus christ. oh and to all the deadmau5 fans they play all their own music because its all the best, not because they’re pretentious douche bags.
