It started with Daft Punk and TRON, and now it seems that Disney has picked up another electronic music brand name to score and cameo as a cartoon character in the upcoming film ‘Wreck It Ralph‘.
A couple of months ago it was reported that Sonny Moore, aka Skrillex would take part in scoring some of the soundtrack for ‘Wreck It Ralph’, and now it’s been unveiled after Total Film magazine watched half an hour of the film, that Skrillex would not only be scoring part of the film, but lending his voice and appearance in a cameo role.
Total Film sat down with the film’s producer, Clark Spencer, and asked him about Sonny Moore’s role in the film and how it happened: “We asked him if we could do it,” Spencer said. “We went to him first and said, ‘Hey, we have this party scene in the world of Fix It Felix Jr, and we have a DJ and we think it would make a nice cameo if we put you into it.’ And he was ecstatic.”
Skrillex isn’t the only popular music act to appear in the credits for the film’s score. Pop music’s Owl City and Japan’s famous girl group AKB40 will also take part.
Over the last couple of years as Skrillex has experienced his meteoric rise to the upper echelon of electronic music, he’s done an excellent job of not only making music for the masses but establishing his Skrillex brand as a pop-culture phenomenon.
Is a cameo in a Disney movie a good move for Skrillex? Or is this news overblown and irrelevant? Sound off in the comments.
