Midnight Magic & Tommie Sunshine – I Found Love

Tommie Sunshine is one of the realest and more enlightened house music heads in the biz. The scene veteran isn’t afraid to offer wisdom and insight on current world and music happenings via his social media channels, which makes him one of the more respected artists around. Old school runs through his blood, as well as a healthy dose of logik, and we take the time to listen to anything the man offers up. Respect to a true OG.

Midnight Magic on the other hand is a basket full of fresh. The 9 piece ensemble from Brooklyn, NY specializes in a fusion of disco, funk, electro and soul, and is one of the more exciting live band acts that we’ve come across this year. So when Mr. Sunshine got excited about his recent collaboration with the crew, titled ‘I Found Love’, we got excited too and quickly pressed play. Here’s a short version of what Tommie wrote about the collab.

… I walked into that studio thinking we were going to make a House record. So did they. We spent a whole day listening to music together so I could set the tone of the sessions… It took a couple days to write it. The lyrics came in minutes, not hours or days. It’s a love song to my muse. It took a couple more days to record it. We used Pro Tools like a tape machine. Almost everything was live. Every effect was outboard & analogue so it was a session without plug-ins. We mixed it at James Murphy’s Plantain Studio on the day of a Prince concert. They brought their Midnight Magic. I brought a head full of 70’s Disco, early 80’s Chicago House and the piano driven dance music of New York in the 90’s. What we found was love. Now that love is yours. Treat it right & it will love you back.

The first track below is the original extended mix of I Found Love. It’s catchy, soulful, and full of heat. Below it is an electrified version of the original, remixed by Tommie Sunshine and the Disco Fries.
