Heads up NorCal, another bass music filled weekend is upon us. This time the crew behind Fresh Bakin’ productions out of Lake Tahoe are bringing us The Bounce. Looking at the first few names of the lineup is enough to excite any electronic music conniseur. With names like Beats Antique, Griz, Justin Martin and The Polish Ambassador followed by an arsenal of amazing underground bass artists on the bill you are bound to have a blast.  Not only will you be amongst some of the best bass music and most beautiful terrain in the state, but some of SoundLogik’s own will be performing live light shows lighting up the landscape in ways you’ve never imagined relying solely on inspiration from nature.

PS – Word on the street is that you can start at one point of the festival grounds, hop in the river, and float to a beach stage…….now try and tell me that The Bounce isn’t f#$%ing awesome.

The suave dark duke of French techno Gesaffelstein releases his first original since his Rise of Depravity EP on Bromance Records last Summer. His new single “Pursuit” comes on OWSLA, hinting at a new marriage between the techno titan and the label. His American following is as vast as his worldwide notoriety, so it makes sense to release on the label. The track itself is, per usual, great French techno. The kick-clap and eerie synths Gesa twists into every tune give off an incredible sense of tension – a trademark style of his not easily duplicated. Montreal, Canada’s Grown Folk have been cruising in the underground house and techno arena for a little over a good minute now, and are just starting to reach the ears of the larger general audience who’s ears are now more adept at picking up good house music. The duo rep solid credible labels like Templar Sound and SF’s ICEE HOT, and have seen support on BBC Radio1 from the likes of Skream and Jacques Greene. Their original track portfolio is as extensive as it is impressive, and their future releases are sounding like they’re taking things to the next level. This boiler room mix, which was recorded at Montreal’s first Boiler Room ever a few weeks ago is proof, as much of the mix is original Grown Folk material, and unreleased as well. Have a listen and keep your ears on this impressive duo.

New York City and London based respectively, Brenmar and Murlo are kings of remixing soulful classics into hits in the club. Whether its bashful Soca or pulsing Jersey Club, the two individually bring something fresh to the table every time they put in work. Pairing up to breathe new life into Brownstone‘s 1994 RnB smash hit, “If You Love Me”, Brenmar and Murlo brought the low end bass with a touch of jersey shuffle to make for a high energy club heater. When first hearing about Emissions 2013, memories of people raving about a festival in the middle of the forest came to mind. Not knowing what to expect from this type of event, all I could think of was talk of past experiences in a secluded, mystical town named “Belden Town”. On the drive up, the setting and scenery start to make you realize how and what this festival was going to be like. Surrounded by rivers, forest, and boulders your mind starts to wonder about what the festival grounds could actually be like. Upon arrival, you cross a giant bridge that takes you into Belden Town, CA. Little did we know that Emissions was actually the entire town (population 22). Once dropping our camping gear off, we had to drive 10 miles away to park our car and get a ride back to Belden Town in a shuttle, a minor inconvenience.

The town, or venue was structured with all of the camping at the end of the town road with 3 stages, one being a beach stage in the front of the town. The cool thing about this place was that you could actually rent out little cabin type spots. There was a hotel type structure with a restaurant and general store which was convenient.

This type of festival definitely isn’t your average “rave”. The type of environment that Emissions represents is more of a mature, spiritual, nature oriented feel with an emphasis on bass music and community. In the forefront of the West Coast Bass culture, Emissions provided a place for like-minded artists and fans to come together to create a smaller and more intimate experience.

The highlight of the weekend was definitely the day time parties at the beach stage. They built an actual stage on the edge of the Feather River providing people the chance to wade in the calm waters and to bathe in the hot sun as they listened to music. A strategically placed metal geodesic dome was placed at the waters edge that served as sort of a jungle gym for nudists and trippers alike.

The cool thing about Emissions is that there is really no separation between artists and festivalgoers. You could literally be camping right next to ill.gates or Mihkal and not even know it. We ended up running into the likes of Minnesota, ill.gates, Mihkal, and more just wandering around the festival grounds multiple times.

Emissions seems to be expanding every year production and population wise and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. If you are in search of a festival full of real people with good vibes in the middle of a forest then Emissions is the place to be. It was crazy to experience a festival where there is literally zero trash on the ground and the amount of respect everyone had for eachother and the environment took the experience to a whole ‘nother level.

This years Lightning In A Bottle festival is right around the corner! The Do LaB‘s flagship yearly festival occurs every summer, and this years’ edition is receiving more hype and recognition than ever before. Along with clutch venue and date changes to a larger lake location in Temecula and a date in the middle of summer, this years’ music lineup is also more robust and diverse than ever before. We’ve taken it upon ourselves to start our “Struck By Lightning” series in an effort to highlight artists from the festival and warm us all up for LIB.

Taking place from July 11-15, LiB is longer than your typical 2-day weekend festival. There’s enough live art, installations, workshops and activities alone to keep you busy the entire time, with a music festival on top of it all! 3 stages of music, all with their own distinct vibe are speckled throughout the festival grounds to keep attendees moving. Workshops featuring top influencial speakers from around the world take place throughout the day with themes ranging from sustainability, to art, to healing. Tucked away is the Lucent Temple of Consciousness where yoga and meditation takes place along with a selection of more exotic world music.

This year will be a little different from previous years with a new location and larger camping center, but it will only lead to more excitement and exploration for everyone attending to share.

Shanghai based RnB and house connoisseur Henry Krinkle has been on a tear as of late, most recently putting his midas touch on Le Youth‘s standout track, “C O O L.” The remix is a perfect blend of lush synth work and a solid kick drum that keeps in touch with the classic sunny daze of the original, while giving the track an amazing house rhythm.

In the ever over-saturated trap remix market its always nice to hear something different from your standard 808s, grunting samples, and hi hats.  Thanks to production duo Kane Beats and Ryan Marks aka LOUDPVCK‘s new remix of Jackal‘s “Shakedown” we have a slight bit of faith in the restoration of unique and creative trap music. We don’t want to spoil the remix too much, but the drop is something else.

Two of forward minded bass music’s hottest up and comers combine on an eclectic, fire filled mix for Diplo’s BBC Radio 1xtra radio show. Djemba Djemba and Mr. Carmack are two names to keep tabs on, both have released remixes and originals on Diplo’s Mad Decent label and sub-label Jeffree’s. Peep their links below.
