Nasir Jones & Damian Marley linked up in 2009 to start work on their collaborative album Distant Relatives. After successful solo careers the two met at the 2009 VMAs where they realized that they had similar views on their motherland, Africa, the current state of the world and of the music scene in general. Distant Relatives was released in 2010 to enourmous fan anticipation and the reviews either loved or hated the release. The album is a little preachy, and a whole lot about Africa, which explains why some fans could not relate to the tracks. Collaborative album aside I had the opportunity to see Nas live at the 2007 Rock the Bells festival where he utterly murdered it. Although I haven’t had the chance to see Damian live, I have seen a few of his siblings performing in the flesh and YouTube vids of the man himself, and I assure you this will be a set filled with energy, raw talent, classics, oh and of course billowing clouds of weed smoke! If there is any doubt in your mind that theirs is a can’t miss set of the weekend peep their setlist from Bonnarro HERE (WOW!!!).

Bonus Coachella! - Joy Orbison
Joy Orbison is a DJ/producer out of London who has the art of quality production mastered. Now Peter O’Grady may not have a whole lot of releases under his belt yet, but he does make some tunes that get HUGE play by a lot of big DJs and he’s not too shabby at creating beautiful mixes either like this “chill mix” he did for Percussion Lab. His set is sure to contain some new and rare tracks. For the record, I am loving all of the amazing producers of forward bass music/dubstep/garage on the lineup this year.
