SoundLogik will be attending Coachella Music Festival this upcoming April and we’re extremely stoked, to say the least. Since a one post preview of the entire weekend and all of our favorite artists would be far too lengthy, we decided to start our “Coachella Daze” series which will feature Coachella artists/songs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday on their respective show day leading up to the event. Fellow Logikians, it’s time to get dazed.

You may be starting to be noticing a trend when it comes to our Coachella Daze series, and that’s the amount of talent coming out of Australia these days. Coachella made sure to capitalize on the success of quite a few bands from down under, and both artists featured in this Fridaze post call OZ their home (and non-coincidentally make amazing music).

Psychadelic rock band, Tame Impala, had a huge 2010 so it’s no surprise that they scored a spot on the Coachella bill this year. Their debut album Innerspeaker, released in May of 2010 on Modular Recordings, Australia’s premier record label, received high marks from critics and fans from around the globe. It was so well received that it led to them opening for MGMT on their US Tour, and won high profile Australian radio station Triple J’s album of the year. The psychedelic sound of TI’s electric guitars and airy vocals will surely have you in a daze, especially lying down on that soft untrodden polo field grass on a relatively unpacked Friday afternoon, lighting up your favorite past time.

Bonus Coachella! – Gypsy And The Cat

If Tame Impala represents the rocker side of Aussies, Gypsy and The Cat take on the softer, dreamy side. They’ve gained international recognition with the release of their first album Gilgamesh, released on Sony Records, and when you have a label with that kind of power on your side the sky is the limit. You’ll find them near the bottom of the Friday lineup, but don’t let that fool you, these Cats have talent and are very easy to listen to.

  1. Montreal blog says:

…I will gladly go on record as saying I thoroughly enjoy Tame Impala’s debut LP, Innerspeaker (2010). Each track is a multi-layered, Inception-esque daydream with trippy guitar and bass dialogue, highly-effected vocal hooks (seemingly sung light years away), and hypnotic, extended instrumental grooves….
