Coachella Fridaze | Sleigh Bells

SoundLogik will be attending Coachella Music Festival this upcoming April and we’re extremely stoked, to say the least. Since a one post preview of the entire weekend and all of our favorite artists would be far too lengthy, we decided to start our “Coachella Daze” series which will feature Coachella artists/songs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday on their respective show day leading up to the event. Fellow Logikians, it’s time to get dazed. Lesss goooooo.

Legend has it that Sleigh Bells, the dynamic duo consisting of Derek Miller and Alexis Krauss, met in 2008 while Miller was waiting tables and mentioned to Krauss and her family he was looking for a female vocalist for his musical project. Alexis’ mom volunteered her daughter and since then they’ve had nothing but success. They performed at Coachella ’10 mostly under the radar, and released their debut album Treats shortly thereafter. Treats was named as one of NPR’s 50 best albums of 2010, and has been receiving much acclaim from critics all over the world.

The best way to describe the Sleigh Bells sound is uniquely noisy, but don’t automatically assume I mean that in a negative light. Derek Miller’s whiny guitar combined with the soft, airy voice of Alexis Krauss provides a beautiful contrast that works together like yin and yang. They’ve definitely got that punk attitude, a stomping dance vibe, and a little pop to boot. And if Diplo supports them, well, you definitely shouldn’t be sleeping on them. Bonus Coachella! – Cold War Kids

I’ve heard and read mixed reviews on Cold War Kids, their new album, and their previous work. Admittedly I’m a little late to this party, seeing that ever since I’ve acquired musical taste I’ve been an electronic music junkie, so I listened to their new album Mine Is Yours with untainted ears and an open mind. Here are my favorites. And since I know there are skeptics, supposedly these dudes are great performers. We’ll have to wait for Coachella Friday to see!
